Licensure Exams

State Licensing Exam Requirements

As of MAY 1, 2004, changes were made by the State education agencies, CCHE and CDE, to the policy related to the content exams required for student teaching eligibility.

  • As of May 1, 2004 , candidates in English, mathematics, science, or social studies may take and pass either the PLACE or the Praxis II exam in their respective content area in order to be eligible to student teach.

  • The Praxis II exam is still only approved in these four teaching areas for Colorado:
    • English
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Social Studies

  • The PLACE is approved in all areas listed above as well as all other areas not listed above.

  • EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CANDIDATES : As of September 9, 2004, ECE candidates may only take and pass the PLACE exam, per CDE policy statement.

  • The CDE is continuing to accept both the PLACE and Praxis II exam for licensing (per CDE; 9/24/03; May 2004).

  • Pre-service teacher education candidates must pass their respective PLACE® or Praxis II exam to receive professional admission status in the Colorado State University Licensure Program. There are no waivers regarding this policy. (Effective at CSU-July 2001; May 2004)

  • Pre-service teacher education candidates must pass their respective PLACE® or Praxis II exam to begin his/her student teaching experience. There are no waivers regarding this policy. (Effective at CSU-July 2001; May 2004)

  • Please refer to the PLACE® Registration Bulletin for information on various aspects of the exam (e.g., registration for the exam, which exam to take, requirements for out-of-state applicants, testing arrangements due to a disability, etc.). Registration bulletins are available on-line ( www.place.nesinc.com/ ) or in room 100 Education Building.

  • Study guides are now available through the PLACE web site.
Praxis II
  • Praxis II Test Schedule and Registration Deadlines

  • This Praxis II exam is available for candidates in only these five endorsement areas:
    • English -- Test Code is 10041
    • Mathematics -- Test Code is 10061
    • Science -- Test Code is 10435
    • Social Studies -- Test Code is 10081

  • The Praxis II web site is accessible at www.ets.org/praxis/prxreg.html . You can view more information and also register on-line.

  • Please refer to the Praxis Registration Bulletin for information on various aspects of the exam (e.g., registration for the exam, which exam to take, requirements for out-of-state applicants, testing arrangements due to a disability, etc.). Registration bulletins are available online ( http://www.ets.org/praxis/prxreg.html ) or in room 100 Education Building .

  • Study guides are now available through the Praxis web site. They are also available in the CSU Morgan Library for a 24-hour reserve check-out. Please see the Reserve Desk at the Library and ask for study guides using course title ED 450.
