Accreditation
The CSU Educator Licensing Program is both state and nationally accredited. The accreditation process ensures that that teacher education programs are meeting standards and expectations set forth by state and national agencies.
State Accreditation:
- The Licensing Program is accredited by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and the Colorado Department of Education .
National Accreditation
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
- CSU is one of 602 NCATE accredited institutions in the country.
- NCATE's dual mission is accountability and improvement in teacher preparation.
- In NCATE accredited schools, "the new professional teacher gains a broad liberal arts education; an in-depth study of the content to be taught; a foundation of professional knowledge on which to base decisions; diverse, well-planned clinical experience in P-12 schools; an evaluation of readiness to practice through many measures of performance; the ability to use knowledge in practice" (NCATE).
- For job-seekers, NCATE accreditation means:
- "Teacher candidates who graduate from NCATE-accredited schools will be better prepared for initial licensing and advanced board certification.
- Many states have reciprocity agreements based on graduation from NCATE-accredited schools, so graduates of NCATE-accredited schools will generally find it easier to apply for license when they move out of state" (NCATE).
- Why NCATE?
- The NCATE continuing accreditation visit occurred on November 16-20, 2002 for CSU.
- March 2003: We were informed by NCATE's Unit Accreditation Board that accreditation has been continued for the professional education unit at Colorado State University . SPECIAL THANKS and Congratulations is extended to our faculty, P-12 school partners, and education candidates!
Title II Reporting for the U.S. Department of Education and the State of Colorado:
- Title II is the report that is required by the Colorado Department of Education and the USDE and is intended to report teacher candidate performance on the PLACE® exam. Individual institution scores are also compared with all State's scores. Ultimately, the CSU scores will be compared with scores from the other 15 Colorado teacher education programs.
