FESA Admission
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Fire and Emergency Services Administration must be admitted to Colorado State University. An associate degree in fire science or a related emergency services field is highly recommended. Students will be held to all Colorado State University admissions requirements and should plan to enter CSU with junior standing. Detailed admissions information is available from the Colorado State University Office of Admissions.
Application Deadlines
Fall Semester - July 1
Spring Semester - December 1
All application materials must be received by the Office of Admissions by the posted deadline.
Admission Requirements
Transfer applicants must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) to be considered for admission. Students below a 2.7 GPA are advised to submit strong letters of recommendation and an essay with their admission packet. Additional factors taken into consideration are: academic rigor, trends in grades, completion of all prerequisite coursework, involvement in campus, community and/or family activities, and an ability to contribute to an appreciation of diversity on campus. Admission is subject to satisfactory completion of current courses and submission of a final, complete, official transcript.
Transfer students must meet the admission requirement in mathematics. This requirement may be met by completing:
- A transferable mathematics course (e.g., College Algebra) with a grade of "C-" or higher (also fulfills graduation requirement), OR
- An Intermediate Algebra course with a grade of "B-" or higher, OR
- Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II with grades of "C" or higher while in high school (submit a high school transcript), OR
- The CSU Mathematics Placement Exam (MPE). Students whose MPE results indicate that they are only cleared to register for MATH 130 and no other mathematics courses must also complete units 1-3 of the ELM Tutorial to satisfy the admission requirement in mathematics.
Students who have completed an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Sciences degree from an accredited Colorado institution will be guaranteed admission providing that it is the last institution attended and that a cumulative 2.0 GPA had been earned from all institutions attended. This does not apply to students with an Associate of Applied Sciences degree.
Second bachelor's candidates/postgraduate applications are exempt from the admission requirement in mathematics, though mathematics credits may be required for graduation.

Applying for Readmission (Returning Students)
You are considered a returning student if you previously were admitted to and regularly enrolled in coursework at Colorado State University and subsequently have been absent for at least one fall or spring term and you wish to return to complete a degree that is already in progress.
Second Bachelor's Candidates
You are considered a second bachelor's/postgraduate applicant if you've already earned a bachelor's degree and wish to complete a second degree or additional undergraduate coursework. Acceptance to work towards a second bachelor's degree is contingent upon completion of a first bachelor's degree and fulfillment of regular admission requirements. In addition to these basic guidelines, you must have:
- Selected a degree-seeking major (second bachelor's applicants cannot enter as "undecided")
- Selected a major that does not duplicate the first degree
If you completed your first degree at Colorado State University, you must still submit a completed application for admission as a second bachelor's candidate by the posted deadline dates. You may apply during the term in which your are finishing your first degree. Colorado State will consider you for admission based on the strength of your academic record to date, and you may be eligible for provisional admission. According to the provisional admission, you must provide a final, official transcript demonstrating completion of your first degree before you enroll for your first term as a second bachelor's candidate.
Academic Fresh Start
The Academic Fresh Start policy allows returning undergraduate students to establish a new academic record upon their return to Colorado State University. A student who enrolls after being granted an Academic Fresh Start has a demarcation on the permanent academic record to differentiate the previous record from the new academic record achieved under the Fresh Start policy. Only grades earned after the Fresh Start demarcation are computed in the new GPA. Credits for those courses in which grades of at least "C-" or "S" were awarded prior to the Fresh Start may be applied toward graduation requirements even though they will not be calculated into the GPA.
For a student to be eligible for an Academic Fresh Start, five or more years must have lapsed since the last semester of enrollment as an admitted degree-seeking student, regardless of the number of credits completed during enrollment. Courses taken through Continuing Education, GUEST, or summer session after leaving the University do not affect the determination of the five-year interval. A Fresh Start can be granted to a student only once.
Please be aware that an Academic Fresh Start does not guarantee the opportunity to return. Applicants must demonstrate the potential for academic success once they re-enroll as an admitted student. Fresh Start applicants are strongly encouraged to submit an essay and support documentation (resume, recommendations, transcripts from other institutions attended since Colorado State, etc.) addressing their academic experience and personal or professional accomplishments since leaving the University as an admitted student.
To discuss your eligibility to return with an Academic Fresh Start, please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@colostate.edu or call (970) 491-6909. You may also contact the Center for Advising and Student Achievement (CASA) at (970) 491-7095.
